# Explore

{% hint style="info" %}
**Quick Answer:** Explore is Moselle's report builder. Click **Explore** in the left sidebar (under Analytics), pick a template or describe what you want in plain language, and Mo builds interactive charts and tables you can refine, save to reports, and share. Your first report takes about 2–3 minutes.
{% endhint %}

## What is Explore in Moselle?

**Explore is** a workspace where you build custom reports by describing what you need in plain language. Instead of configuring filters and chart settings by hand, you tell Mo what you want to see — "weekly revenue by channel for the last quarter" — and Mo assembles the charts and tables on a canvas for you.

Explore works hand-in-hand with the Reports page:

* **Explore** is where you *build* — an interactive canvas for asking questions and shaping the output
* **Reports** is where finished work *lives* — anything you save from Explore appears as a report on the Reports page for you (and optionally your whole team) to revisit

### Key Benefits

* **No configuration:** Describe the report you need; Mo picks the right data, charts, and layout
* **Iterate conversationally:** Ask for changes ("make it a line chart", "group by region") instead of rebuilding
* **From insight to action:** Save any chart or table to a report, share it with your company, or send its findings into a forecast

## Prerequisites

**Time Required:** 2–3 minutes for your first report **Difficulty:** Beginner

Before you begin, make sure you have:

* [ ] An active Moselle account with at least one data source connected
* [ ] Historical sales or inventory data synced

## Step-by-Step: Build Your First Report

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open Explore

1. Log into your Moselle account
2. Click **Explore** in the left sidebar, under the Analytics section

You can also click **Explore & Build** at the top of the Reports page.

**Expected Result:** You'll see the Explore landing page asking "What do you want to build?"
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Start from a Template or Describe What You Need

**Option A — Templates.** Click one of the ready-made starting points:

* **Weekly Sales Summary** — units sold, revenue, and channel breakdown for the past 7 days
* **Forecast vs. Actual** — compare forecasted demand against real sales to spot accuracy gaps
* **COGS Report** — cost of goods sold breakdown by product, channel, and time period
* **PO Allocation Report** — purchase order allocation and inventory coverage across channels

**Option B — Plain language.** Type what you want in the prompt box — for example, "Show me monthly revenue and units by channel for this year, plus my top 20 SKUs by revenue." Under **Available datasets**, you can click a dataset to tag it in your prompt so Mo uses exactly the data you have in mind. Click **Build** when you're ready.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Review Your Scratchpad

Mo opens alongside a canvas — called a **scratchpad** — and starts placing charts and tables on it. While it works you'll see "Mo is building your report — results will appear here."

Once assets appear, keep chatting with Mo to refine them, or use the icons on each card to reorder, delete, download, or save them to a report.

{% hint style="success" %}
Success! Your scratchpad is saved automatically and listed under **Your scratchpads** on the Explore landing page, so you can pick up where you left off.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What is a Scratchpad?

**A scratchpad** is a working session in Explore — one conversation with Mo plus the canvas of charts and tables it produced. Scratchpads are drafts: they're for exploring and iterating. When a chart or table is worth keeping, save it to a report.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Scratchpads are saved **in your browser on this device** and are private to you. They won't appear on another computer, and teammates can't see them. To keep something permanently or share it, save it to a report — see [Save & Share Reports from Explore](/analytics/explore/save-and-share-reports.md).
{% endhint %}

To start a fresh session at any time, click **New scratchpad** at the top of the canvas.

## What Data Can I Explore?

Explore works with the data you've connected to Moselle — sales, inventory, forecasts, costs, and purchase orders, depending on your integrations and uploads. The **Available datasets** list on the landing page shows exactly what's available in your account.

If no datasets appear, your data may still be syncing — or contact <support@moselle.io>.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How is Explore different from asking Mo for a chart in chat?

**Answer:** In Mo chat, charts appear inline in the conversation. In Explore, Mo builds onto a persistent canvas with interactive tables you can sort, group, and format — and every asset can be saved to a shared report with one click.

### Do I need to know anything technical to use Explore?

**Answer:** No. You describe what you want in plain language and Mo handles the rest. Tagging a dataset is optional — it just helps Mo start from the right data.

### Can my teammates see what I build in Explore?

**Answer:** Not until you save it. Scratchpads are private to you and your browser. Saving an asset to a report and sharing that report with your company is how you make it visible to others.
