Create a Supply Plan

Quick Answer: Go to Production in the left sidebar (under Planning & Execution), click Create Production Plan, and choose Supply Plan. Name the plan, set a coverage period, pick the forecast it should plan against, choose a build method, and click Create Supply Plan. Moselle builds the first version in the background and opens the plan when it is ready. The form takes about 2 minutes; the build usually takes a few minutes.

Prerequisites

Time Required: 2 minutes to create, a few minutes to build Difficulty: Intermediate

Before you begin, make sure you have:

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Open the Plans list

Click Production in the left sidebar, under Planning & Execution. You land on the Plans list, where replenishment plans, allocation plans, and supply plans all appear together, grouped under the forecast they were built from.

Expected Result: You see a Create Production Plan button at the top right.

2

Choose the plan type

Click Create Production Plan. A dialog asks "How do you want to plan production?" with two cards:

  • Replenishment Plan — Reorder quantities per item from your forecast. Quick to set up and easy to review.

  • Supply Plan — Plans across your whole supply network — warehouses, suppliers and lead times.

Select Supply Plan and continue.

3

Fill in the plan details

The Create Supply Plan dialog asks for four things:

Field
What to enter

Plan Name

Something you will recognise on the list later, e.g. "Q4 network plan"

Coverage Period

The first and last month the plan should cover. Pick a window long enough for your longest lead time plus the months you want to see ahead.

Forecast

The demand the plan runs on. Your Master Plan is listed first; saved scenarios appear under Previous Plans.

How should we build it?

Simple regression — Moselle suggests the orders needed to cover your targets. Start blank — Moselle snapshots demand and the orders you already own, and you add the rest by hand.

Most teams should start with Simple regression. Choose Start blank when you want an empty canvas that still shows your demand and existing purchase orders — for example, to enter a plan you have already agreed elsewhere.

4

Create and wait for the build

Click Create Supply Plan. You will see "Supply plan created — building now" and the plan page opens in its building state.

Expected Result: The header shows the plan name with a Building badge. When the build finishes, the grid appears automatically — you do not need to refresh.

What Is on the Plan Page Header?

Once the plan opens you will see:

A supply plan always covers every warehouse on your Supply Chain map, so there is no scope or warehouse shown in the header.

How Do Builds and Versions Work?

Every build creates a new version. The plan itself is just the header — name, forecast, coverage period. The numbers you see belong to a version, and the version picker lets you look back at earlier builds.

  • Current version — the newest successful build, and the only one you can edit.

  • Earlier versions — selectable from the picker in read-only mode, so you can compare what the plan looked like before.

  • Failed builds — also selectable, so you can read the error instead of hitting a dead end. Fix the cause and click Rebuild.

What happens when I rebuild?

Click Rebuild in the actions menu whenever your forecast, inventory, or map has changed. Moselle:

  1. Takes a fresh snapshot of demand and opening stock

  2. Regenerates every suggested order against the new numbers

  3. Carries forward every order you have staged or placed into the new version

  4. Leaves archived orders behind

Your decisions survive; Moselle's proposals refresh. That is the whole point of the Suggested → Staged → Placed lifecycle.

Plan statuses on the Plans list

Status
Meaning

Building

A build is in progress. The list refreshes itself while any plan is building.

Ready

The current version built successfully and can be opened and edited

Failed

The latest build stopped before completing. Open the plan to read the error, then rebuild.

Not built

The plan exists but has never completed a build

The Last activity column shows when the current version finished building.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the coverage period after creating the plan?

Answer: Yes. Click the Coverage Period in the plan header, or open the actions menu (gear icon) and choose Settings — it is the same dialog you used to create the plan. Saving a new coverage period triggers a rebuild against the new window. You cannot change it while a build is running.

Can I pick which warehouses the plan covers?

Answer: Not from the dialog. A supply plan always plans every warehouse on your Supply Chain map together. To leave a site out, remove it from the map or archive the warehouse.

What is the difference between "Simple regression" and "Start blank"?

Answer: Simple regression fills the plan with Moselle's suggested purchases, production runs, and transfers. Start blank builds the same demand and inventory picture — including purchase orders you already have open — but proposes nothing, so every order in the plan is one you add yourself.

Why did my plan come back with no suggestions?

Answer: Check three things: the forecast has demand in the coverage period, the Supply Chain map has a source or inbound lane for each warehouse, and the plan was built with Simple regression rather than Start blank.

How do I delete a supply plan?

Answer: Use the row actions (⋮) on the Plans list and choose Archive. Archived plans are removed from the list; the purchase orders you placed from them are unaffected.

Open the failed version from the picker to read the error. Most failures trace back to a missing forecast or an incomplete map. Fix, then Rebuild.

Large networks take longer. Refresh the page; if it stays stuck, try Rebuild.
