# Edit Item Details

Update any product or component in your catalog. Access the item details page to modify pricing, attributes, bill of materials, supplier links, and forecast settings.

## Open Item Details

Two ways to access an item:

1. **Search** - Use the search bar at the top of any Moselle page. Type the SKU or product name.
2. **Catalog** - Go to Catalog > Products, find the item, and click **View Item** in the right column.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Can't identify a SKU?** If you see an unfamiliar SKU in a report or planning view, copy and paste it into the search bar at the top of any Moselle page. This takes you directly to the item details page where you can see the product name, description, bill of materials, and all other product information to identify what the SKU represents.
{% endhint %}

## Basic Information

On the item details page, click any field to edit:

| Field           | Description                                           |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **SKU** | Unique identifier (changing this creates a new entry) |
| **Name**        | Product display name                                  |
| **SKU Type** | Core, Bundle, or Component |
| **Unit Price** | Selling price per unit |
| **Unit Cost** | Your cost per unit |
| **Description** | Product description                                   |

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** The Variant SKU type is deprecated. For products with variations (sizes, colors), use a Core SKU and link all variant listings. See [Handling Product Variants](/operations/catalog/create-an-item.md#handling-product-variants).
{% endhint %}

Changes save automatically when you click out of a field.

2. Click **+ Add**
3. Select an existing attribute or type a new name

### Add or Edit Components

1. Scroll to **Bill of Materials**
2. Click **+ Add new materials**
3. Search for the component item
4. Enter the quantity needed per finished unit

## Adjust Forecast Settings

Configure how Moselle forecasts demand for this item.

### Launch Date

Set when the product started (or will start) selling:

1. Go to **Adjust Forecast** tab
2. Under **Launch Date**, select the date
3. Click **Apply**

Use future dates for upcoming product launches.

### Product Comparables

For new products without sales history, link similar products:

1. Go to **Adjust Forecast** tab
2. Under **Product Comparables**, search for similar SKUs
3. Select one or more comparable products
4. Click **Apply**

Moselle uses comparable product data to forecast new items.

### Seasonality and Spikes

Adjust how the item responds to demand changes:

1. Go to **Adjust Forecast** tab
2. Use the slider to set spike/seasonality sensitivity
3. Click **Apply**

## Phase Out a SKU

**SKU phase-out** marks a product as discontinuing so Mo stops generating reorder recommendations while continuing to forecast sell-down demand until inventory reaches zero.

Phase out a SKU before archiving it. Archiving without phasing out first removes the SKU from all planning views immediately — Mo will stop tracking sell-down and you may be left with unmanaged remaining stock.

### Set a Phase-Out Date

**From the item details page:**

1. Open the item details page
2. Click the **Phase Out** button
3. Set a **phase-out date** — the date from which Mo zeros out forecasted demand
4. Click **Save**

**During forecast creation:**

When prompted — "Do you have any SKUs retiring?" — select the relevant SKUs, assign a phase-out date to each, and proceed. Mo factors phase-out dates into the forecast automatically.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Set the date as early as you know it.** Mo uses the phase-out date to plan sell-down trajectories. The sooner it's set, the more accurate your sell-down projections will be.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Variants:** Phase-out applies at the SKU/subline level. All size and colour variants under a product are zeroed on the same phase-out date.
{% endhint %}

### Reverse a Phase-Out

If plans change, open the item details page, remove the phase-out date, and save. Mo will resume normal forecasting and reorder recommendations.

### Replacing a Phased-Out SKU

Set up the replacement as a new product and assign the outgoing SKU as its **Product Comparable** in the Adjust Forecast tab. This gives Mo demand context for the new SKU immediately at launch. See [Special Situations](/planning-and-execution/forecasting/special-situations.md) for more detail.

## Archive a SKU

Archiving a SKU removes it from all active planning views in Moselle — it will no longer appear in your forecast table, production plan, or Mo's recommendations. Archive only SKUs that have been fully sold down and are no longer part of your active catalog.

### SKU Lifecycle

A SKU moves through the following stages before archiving:

| Stage            | Description                                                                                           |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Active** | SKU is live and included in all forecasting and planning |
| **Phasing Out** | A phase-out date has been set. Mo forecasts sell-down demand but generates no new reorder suggestions |
| **Discontinued** | Inventory has reached zero. The SKU is no longer reordered |
| **Archived** | SKU is fully removed from all active planning views |

### When to Archive vs. Phase Out

| Situation                                     | Action                        |
| --------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| SKU is retiring but still has inventory | Set a phase-out date |
| SKU has sold down to zero and is discontinued | Archive the SKU |
| SKU was created in error or is a duplicate | Archive immediately |
| SKU is temporarily out of stock | Do not archive — leave active |

### How to Archive a SKU

1. Navigate to the **Product Catalog**
2. Open the item details page for the SKU you want to archive
3. Click the **gear icon (⚙️)** on the item details page
4. Select **Archive**

Once archived, the SKU is removed from your forecast table, production plan, and Mo's active context.

### How Mo Handles Phased-Out and Archived SKUs

| Stage                           | Mo's Behaviour                                                                   |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Before phase-out date** | Mo forecasts normal demand and surfaces sell-down recommendations |
| **On and after phase-out date** | Mo zeroes forecasted demand. No new reorder suggestions are generated |
| **When inventory hits zero** | SKU moves to discontinued status automatically |
| **Once archived** | SKU is fully excluded from Mo's context, recommendations, and all planning views |

## Unarchive an Item

1. Navigate to the **Product Catalog**
2. Click on **Products**
3. Click **+ Status** and select **Archived**

   <figure><img src="/files/FWJKw3lNHJ5tPoe4KIm2" alt="" width="244"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
4. Find the product you want to restore and click on it to open its details
5. Click the **gear icon (⚙️)** and select **Unarchive**

<figure><img src="/files/3Ns6kHR5ls4nTTqpmb4h" alt="" width="184"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The product will now appear in your active product list. Check that all product details, channel links, and settings are intact.
